Basics
What are Smile Revolution aligners?
Smile Revolution aligners are plastic dental devices made from transparent material.
They are custom-made to fit your teeth perfectly and gently shift them without irritating the gums.
Every month, you receive a new aligner that gradually continues the tooth movement process. How many hours a day should they be worn?
The fastest results are achieved when you wear the aligners for 20 hours a day. The aligners should be removed during special occasions, when eating, and when brushing your teeth.
Is it possible to wear aligners on just one arch?
The correct answer to this question can only be provided after a consultation. It is possible to receive aligners for just the upper or lower arch if it does not compromise the proper bite alignment.
How long does the treatment last?
The duration of the treatment depends on the severity of each case. More severe cases require a higher number of aligners. The most common cases we encounter are completed between 3 and 6 months of wear.
How do aligners work to straighten teeth?
The biological principle of tooth movement is the same as with traditional braces. Using 3D analysis, the treatment plan for tooth movement is pre-planned, including the number of aligners and the sequence in which they will apply pressure to the teeth in order to achieve the desired result. Each aligner is made based on a series of models created from the 3D analysis. Each tooth model represents a step toward the goal. Every aligner fits snugly on the teeth, applying continuous pressure, which results in tooth movement. One aligner moves the tooth to a certain position, and then the next continues the movement until the desired result is achieved. The treatment consists of a set of aligners. Through 3D analysis, we determine the duration of the treatment and the number of aligners needed for your case. The more complex the case, the longer the treatment.
What does the process of creating Smile Revolution aligners look like for you?
Using advanced 3D technology, which includes high-precision 3D printers and 3D scanners, the tooth movement is planned in software and divided into the necessary steps for the required tooth shifts, i.e., the number of aligners needed. Each step, or model, is 3D printed, and then the plastic is molded using heat and pressure. The final steps include cutting, processing, and polishing to ensure the aligners are perfectly adjusted to your teeth. Afterward, the aligners are packed and sent to your chosen dentist.
Placing the aligners?
Before placing the aligners, wash your hands with soap and water. It’s recommended, if possible, to brush your teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Placing the aligners is very simple. Using your fingers, gently push the aligner over your front teeth. Then, with equal pressure, use your fingertips to adjust it to your side teeth. Since each aligner is custom-made just for you, it will fit your teeth perfectly, and you won’t have any issues placing it. Do not bite down on the aligners to make them fit, as this can damage both the aligners and your teeth. It is completely normal to feel mild discomfort during the treatment, as the aligners apply light pressure on your teeth. Be cautious when placing the aligners, as rough handling can cause irritation to the soft tissues.
What happens after the aligners?
After completing the Smile Revolution aligner treatment, all patients ask the same question – Will my teeth have a tendency to return to their original position? Our answer is yes, because it’s simply a matter of biology. However, there is a solution. Retainers, which help maintain the results achieved after treatment, are here to keep things under control. After your Smile Revolution treatment, your dentist will advise you on how long you need to wear the retainers. After the treatment, the need to wear the retainer decreases, and it’s typically worn only at night.
Preparation for treatment
Preparation for treatment
Send us photos of your teeth, schedule an appointment at the nearest partner clinic, and find out if you are a candidate for this type of treatment.
Is it necessary to have an orthopantomogram (panoramic X-ray)?
Before starting the treatment, the dentist from our partner clinic will advise you to get an X-ray. You should not do it without prior instructions from the dentist.
Is it necessary to remove the wisdom teeth (third molars)?
Based on the panoramic X-ray, the dentist will decide if it’s necessary to remove the wisdom teeth. Even if they are not currently causing any issues, our advice is to remove them beforehand if they are in a poor position.
Life during therapy
Can I eat with the aligners in?
Unlike fixed braces, there are no food restrictions — you just need to remove the aligners beforehand.
What if I lose my aligner?
If that happens, contact our team as soon as possible so we can create a new aligner for you.
Is the treatment painful?
You may feel strong pressure, but there shouldn’t be any pain.
When do I switch to the next aligner?
If you live in Dubai, you’ll have monthly check-ups where you receive your new aligner. Over time, the aligner you’re wearing will stop applying pressure. When that happens, you simply remove it — that means it’s time for the next one!
Life with the aligners
Can I eat normally if I have clear aligners?
Absolutely. Patients are usually most excited about the fact that there are no food restrictions like with fixed braces. Aligners are very easy to put on and take off. Before every meal, you can simply remove your aligners and fully enjoy your food and drinks. Just don’t forget to brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in!
What can I drink while wearing the aligners?
While wearing the aligners, we recommend drinking cooler beverages. Hot drinks can deform or damage the aligners, and colored juices can stain them and lead to cavities. If you desire such drinks, make sure to remove the aligners before consuming them.
Can I smoke while wearing the aligners?
If you smoke while wearing the aligners, the smoke can stain them and they may retain a specific odor. That’s why we do not recommend smoking while wearing the aligners.
Can I chew gum while wearing the aligners?
No. Unfortunately, gum cannot be chewed while wearing the aligners. If you try, you’ll realize that it’s not even possible.
Can I speak normally with aligners on?
A slight clicking sound is common in the first few days of wearing the aligners. But it only lasts for the first few days. Over time, your mouth will get used to the aligners, and the clicking sound will disappear.
